Hey to everyone checking out my own little corner of this site. You can read what's new in my life by clicking here
Thanks for listening and caring. It means the world to all of us.
For those who don't know, I play (mainly) guitar with Joey. As it says in the liner notes in the 'Book', I also played violin, mandolin, organ, tympanus, orchestral chimes, a bunch of percussion, and I also sang quite a bit. Making this album has been the largest single endeavour I've ever been involved with. Working on the Book of Old Joe has taught me tonnes about musicianship, patience,
dedication, hard work, humility, and appreciation - traits I hope to augment everyday life with.
The making of this album has taken up a good chunk of my 24th year.
One day I realized that, amidst all the mixing and the recording of tracks which I personally played, I was also present at almost all of the (roughly)
200 tracks on the album - save for a couple of Joey's vocal and guitar tracks and Keith's bowed bass in Everything's Easy. What a relief when we sent it away for manufacturing!
At the time of writing this, I've heard the album 24,036,583 times and I still rock out to it. What a privilege to be involved in such a project!
With that in mind, I'd like to thank again, Joey, Keith, Scotty, and everyone who had a hand in making the "Book" happen. It's great to see
this amount of talent in the middle of Saskatchewan.
I guess this is supposed to be a bio section, so here's a little history of Old Dev:
I was born and raised in Prince Albert. The music bug hit me big while going to Vickers School. I joined the school band when I was 8 years old, playing clarinet. It wasn't too long after that I started playing bass, percussion, and a lot of guitar. It was my uncle and grandpa that inspired me to take it up. With a hint of guidance from them, I basically taught myself how to play. I stayed in P.A. until graduating high school. In 1998, I came to Saskatoon to attend the U of S and have been here ever since. When not going
to class, I'm usually encompassed in some manifestation of music, trying to build a recording studio (called Nascency Studios), reading, or trying to get a game of hockey together.
In addition to
playing with the Truth Hurts, I'm in a ska band called the Tig Ol' Bitties, I'm the drummer with Elk Pipe Moose, and I'm a long-term percussionist in the University of Saskatchewan Wind
Orchestra. In the past, I've played guitar with
Polysorbate-80, New Jacobin Club, and The Martin Janovksy Band. I've also played bass with The Pinstripe Project and Pangaea. I also work on other
material on my own which currently includes an acoustic album and a metal album (which will include a bunch of friends. Joey's already helped out so much,
it's pretty much his baby as well).
My most involved musical project, however, is called Before and Apace and is still in the writing stage (where it's been for the past
ten-odd years). My cousin Dax and good friends Arlan and Bryce are the other members. We are still searching for a fifth musical soul-mate to
complete this ambitious project. Hopefully, time will allow some finishing touches to be put on in the next year and we can concentrate
on getting that band off the ground.
Fortunately, while that band is still in its infancy, I never have to look very far to be challenged musically. I don't think it's possible to get bored being a Truth Hurt.
I'm looking forward to every new opportunity with Keith, Scotty, and Old Joe by my side.
